Ljubljana

Cycling portion of my trip now completed, we arrived in Ljubljana yesterday afternoon. Had a couple tasks to complete this morning.
1. Get cash, still unable to use bank machines.
2. Buy a warmer jacket; it is unseasonably cool.
With those done we headed out sightseeing. First we came across 'Open Kitchens', there were 50 booths set up, all sorts of foods and wines. We decided we were first going to go up the hill and see the castle. Great castle, they've done a great restoration job.

With that done, back to the open kitchens where we opted for a sausage and horseradish side, tasty. Next we needed beer (as it was way past noon). And then more sightseeing.
Next on our to do list was a river cruise on the Ljubljanica river. On the hour, every hour, except 3pm. Of course it's 2:30. Off to the tourist information to find out where the other tour company sails from. 45 minute cruise, it was okay.

Back to the room to chill out before dinner. A little research on trip advisor led us to decide on a little gourmet restaurant, Luda. On the way we came across 'dinner in the sky'.

Luda:
Dinner was fabulous. The menu changes weekly, and consists of two starters, two mains and two desserts. We both opted for the cuttlefish starter, with mussels and figs. Pork cheeks with feta and butternut squash for the main. And chocolate cake with chocolate foam and orange icecream/candied orange. Jack went with a complex red wine, and I went with a complex 'orange'. I'd seen orange wines listed the day before along with the Rosé, very nice.

  1. What - no dinner in the sky??? Would love to try the 'orange' wine, sounds interesting!

Looks like a fascinating place with interesting architecture! Glad to see you on the blog - missed the daily tours :)
