Bohemian Saxon Switzerland

Full day trip planned today to Bohemian Saxon Switzerland. Scheduled pickup for 7am, and shortly after we are on the road. The othertwo on the trip are a couple from Minnesota. Our guide is Jakub, and the driver whose name I'll never be able to remember or pronounce.AAbout an hour and a half drive our first stop is Bastei Bridge on the Saxon side of the Saxon Switzerland National Park. The Neurathen Catle was situated on top of these rocks from the 14th to 18th century (or there abouts). This spot has been a tourist attraction for about 200 years.
Yes Janet, we are going to cross that bridge. How else are we going to be able to walk around where the castle once stood?

Elbe River

See, plenty safe.

A drive to our second stop, Pravicka Gate. It's a 2km hike up to the gate.  The largest sandstone gate in Europe (back in Czech).

Still a little foggy.

Olga's demise. She fell off her horse, that's it!

 Cafe

A short stop at the cafe for a snack and a beer for some of us (guide and me, the other two go for coffee, some nonsense about having to walk down).

Next stop lunch. Great little restaurant, wood stove warming it up! Went with traditional Czech food: pork, sauerkraut and dumplings with beer. Way too much food, but so good - won't be needing dinner tonight.

After lunch we walked down to the Kamenice River. We walk along river through the gorge, and where the path ends we take a boat. The driver of the boat boutsnout various rock formations to us, some I can see, others need more imagination than I have. After the boat, we continue walking back to our van, and back to Prague.

Great day!

  1. OMG - that bridge!!! I can see that it is plenty wide, but still...

And you get some fall colours - awesome photos, Brenda. The scenery is spectacular. That cafe up in the rock - WOW! Too funny about the Americans not wanting a beer because they had to walk down - almost spewed coffee on my monitor on that one! Too bad the castle wasn't still standing - that would have been an impressive location! And poor Olga ;)

Best part of your 'tour'...the Elbe River! A favourite crossword puzzle clue, so cool that I get to 'see' it on your tour!!
