Saturday in Vienna

Went to Naschmarket this morning. A great open air market. Stalls to get fresh fruit and vegetables, fresh flowers, meat and fish, spices, dried fruit and candy. As well as many restaurants to grab a bite to eat and something to drink. On Saturday there is also a flea market. If you can imagine it, it was available here. No treasures for me though. Very popular with locals and tourists. Walked along the pedestrian street, and grabbed a seat and people watched near St. Stephan's. Not as crazy as I had expected. Although lots of tour groups.

Monument against war and facism. On the site of an apartment block that was destroyed during an air raid in 1945.

On to Central Cafe

Today's choice: cream cake with plums
Came across these vendors on my away back to my hotel.

Potato, pumkim and onions topped with sauerkraut. Tasty.
Later in the afternoon I hopped the tram to the suburbs, Grinzing. It's a popular destination known for it's heuriges (wine taverns). Heurige means 'of this year', these taverns would sell their young wines.

Here's the charming place I found for dinner: wienerschnitzel.

  1. And inquiring minds what to know what you had fr dinner! That torte looks divine...as does the potato/pumpkin dish (very interesting). And a fabulous picture of you - you're looking great, Brenda! Nice to 'see' you in some of the shots.

Love that statue and the arches in the 'cafe'.
